I was told to unplug the modem....is it the box that the cable company gives you? or is the big box which I call the computer? I am sorry but I am very computer illiterate...thank you for any replies. I have a Dell computer if that makes a difference. Sherry

Hi Sherry, most modems are external to your computer but may also be inside the computer. Basically it will be whatever your phone line connects into. From your description your modem sounds like it may be a external box provided by your cable company. Unplug it, wait 15 seconds and then plug in again.
