Two weeks ago or so we had a Brown Thrasher show up under our suet feeders. He was eating some sunflower seeds and whatever suet the woodpeckers dropped. But he should not be here in our area at this time of year.
When our weather got so bitterly cold this pass week I really worried about him. I figured the poor bird would freeze to death. Well so far so good he is still alive. I have been putting out suet pieces for him to eat. He is also continuing to feed on the shelled sunflower seeds I put out. I am praying that he makes it to spring. Such a brave bird, or a bird brain to be in Wisconsin this time of year. Here is a picture of him. DSCN7536.JPG

Fingers crossed he will survive. Thankfully spring isn't too far away now.

Often, whenever there is a disturbance in the Earth's magnetic field, migratory birds, as well as many other animals - Often end up in the wrong place, (as they navigate by the Earth's magnetic field)...

Whenever there is a major earthquake anywhere in the world. The Earth's magnetic field in that area starts to surge and fluctuate for a few days after.

Day before yesterday there was a major earthquake in my country.

Sane earthquake was felt in India too!

Now Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, as well as parts of Eastern China - are all clustered on one side. So exactly on the opposite side of the world, there is United States...

And it's basic physics, that whatever happens to one side of a magnetic field. The exact opposite of it also happens to the other side of the field too, (as north and south poles of any magnet have away of balancing each other out).

So this could in theory explain why this little bird is in the wrong place at this time of year...

Eileen, I am praying that he survives until spring. I am doing everything I can to help this bird. So far so good. He's been at the feeder 4 times today that I saw.
S-H that is very interesting information. One never thinks about that kind of disruption. Thanks for posting it.

Let's hope he (or she) survives, I am positive that he will, as he has you around.

So come spring time, this little bird and you both will have a very interesting story to tell!

S-H we have not seen the Thrasher for over a month now. Not sure if it just moved on, or something happened to it.
Dianne---that is a beautiful bird. What is it?

I think he must have realized that he got disorientated, (if the magnetic field theory is correct). So as soon as the field stabilized, he must have gone to wherever he needed to be.

Doubt if he would have experienced a mishap. Because he had proven himself to be a survivor.

Yes I think that may have been what happened. Hopefully he will soon return with the warmer weather.
