I tried picking them off by hand and the lump on the top is kind of a yucky, seems to be its excretion. It is quite difficult to remove it from the leaves. There are quite a number of them on the plant and I had tried soap spray with no result. Oops! sorry I forgot to google it ... OK google mentioned that it is some kind of leaf beetle larva, maybe a tortoise beetle. Have you seen this before?

Any idea of how to get rid of them?

Aliens for sure. Never saw anything like them before. I'd try a dust like sevin as it would stick to them.

Try sprinkling talcum powder on them and see if they drop off. Or DE if you have it.

What strange looking creatures. They really could be aliens couldn't they? I've not spotted anything like them over here so can't offer advice on how to get rid of them. I just hope you find a solution before they chew your plants to ribbons.

Hi KK- I think the DE refers to Diatomaceous earth.
Those are the strangest bugs I have ever seen! Hope the soapy water sprays will get them off.

Yes that is what I was talking about Diatomaceous Earth since KK is mostly organic. I have heard that the talcum powder or baby powder will do the same thing although I have not tried it myself. But in a pinch its worth a shot if nothing else is available.

They are almost gone. Philip Nulty's mixture of soap, vinegar, baking soda is more effective. There were also adults one and for these I pick them off by hand and crush them. They have a hard shell on top just like a tortoise.

Eileen they were indeed very strange looking, repulsive too!!!

Thanks Kay, sad to say DE is not available here.

They are indeed yucks to look at!

Thanks Mart, at least now everything is in control.
