How about a "not-new" bench! Hubby's friend/co-worker gave this to me. At first I thought it was a "people bench", but it's not hefty enough. He said he was tired of it just being in his way at home and that it was for plants and knew that I would give it a good home. I'm so tempted to paint it but figured I let it settle in before I make any changes.

If that disappears from your yard some night, don't come looking for me Rolling Eyes I love it!!
I like the weathered wood look but it would need some water sealer or something on it to make it last longer.

I have some of that Thompsons Water Seal that I was thinking of putting on it. Does that bring out the beauty of the cedar? Or perhaps clear coat or shellac?
I still have an itch to paint it though! Confused
And you know what this means?? I need more potted plants! Oy vey! Laughing

I didn't know it was cedar, that means it doesn't need to be sealed cedar holds up great.
How about leaving it like it is and getting bright color pots or paint the pots you have, for the plants you put on it.

This is a real find Chery. I would agree with Toni about the look. It looks nice already.

Nice bench. Lots of people let cedar shingles age to get that grey color, I don't think a cedar bench is any different. An empty bench is like a flat surface in a workshop....it needs to have something on it. Smile Put some plants on it, you may change your mind.

I like Toni's idea! Paint it with lots of colorful pots. Get your kids or grandkids, or kids from church to paint pictures on some of the pots....plants and art in one medium!

I really like the idea of the bench staying just the way it is too. Brightly coloured pots, as Toni suggested, would look terrific displayed on it.

Okay then... I'll leave it alone.Very Happy
And now I have to see what kind of pots I can find. I don't have kids or grandkids... and as bad as my drawing/painting is... probably no one could tell the difference if I did the painting.

You don't have to worry about being artistic Cheryl. What folks around here do is wiggly lines, splotches and spots or just different colours on each of their pots. I have to admit it looks great.

Here's some as an example of what I mean. I found them on the internet.

Is there a special type of paint for Terra Cotta pots?
I've seen spray paint for plastic... do you think that would work on regular old plastic pots?
Eileen... Those do look pretty cool!

I think my neighbours use regular water-based acrylic craft paint on their terracotta pots and have no problems with it. I'm not sure about plastic pots though Cheryl. Confused You may have to scarify the surface so that the paint will stick properly to the plastic.

Cool Bench! What a thoughtful fella Very Happy I love the pots Eileen found for you Smile I've painted terra cotta pots with regular old craft paint and it worked fine. Might take a few coats because the clay really absorbs it Wink
