could you give us a little more information on this? is it alternate or opposite leafed, is it deciduous, evergreen, a herbacious perennial, sun or shade, spring, summer or all summer/fall blooming? etc.
The foliage reminds me of pittosporum, but I'm not sure if it is hardy in your zone. Is the foliage fragrant if you crush a few leaves?
the flowers remind me of camellia's. do you think either is a possibility?

I've searched the web and all my books to try and ID this plant for you. I've, finally, discovered that it's the double flowered Pomegranate Punica granatum 'flora plena.'
