In the spring it had been pretty cold so the bugs and worms where not plentiful. When had this male robin who would come and eat the suet droppings from the woodpeckers. They he found the cracked sunflower seeds I put on a stump for some of the other birds. He still comes a few times a week for his sunflower snack. It's not true that birds won't eat anything out of their normal diet. It will be fun to see if he comes back next spring to eat the suet droppings and stop for a sunflower snack. Maybe his fledglings will develop a taste for sunflower seeds also. Robin having a sunflower seed snack. ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden )
Our robins eat sunflower hearts during the colder winter months but tend to eat insects the rest of the year.
There are enough insects in the lawn menu to keep the Robins happy. They will however eat the suet droppings if they happen across them in their travels. Wintertime finds them in the holly bushes. Jerry
