My husband, mother and I all planted a texas redbud during the later months of '07, she had received it as a gift for participating in the race for the cure last year. Well for these months we saw no activity, and this morning on my way to work I spied a small green leaf now I'm not sure if this is reason to celebrate, we've never had a texas rosebud before and we look forward to the time when it starts growing a little more. I plan on doing more research into just how to care for it .. I'm excited!

I tried to find information about it, but only got Rosebud, Texas. What's it's Latin name?

That's our mistake! Misread on my moms behalf, it's called the Texas Redbud.

Chele you have a beautiful tree you should be proud of its first buds. There was about 5 of them in mother's yard only one left as the wisteria vine that choked them to death. There is one left . I noticed one growing behind our mailboxes last year.I dug it up about a month ago.It now sits in my front yard.My friend in town call and wants me to come get more plant and she has me 2 more redbud trees.

April 8th progress ^^ I hope this keeps up!
We had to put a metal pole in to help keep it upright; it's been gusty here and the tree itself keeps bending in the wind when it kicks up real bad.
One more

Chele, Texas Redbuds are easy to take care of. Since they are natives you really don't have to do much. Full sun, moderate water, they tolerate drought very well, they reach 15-20 feet in height and width. Since they are commonly multi-trunked it can take up a lot of space.
Next spring before the leaves show up, you will find it covered in pretty hotpink/purpley flowers. I don't really know why they are called Redbud since the buds are not red Also, after a couple of years expect to find them coming up in all sorts of strange places, the birds deposit the seeds where ever they land. We have one growing up the middle of a Crepe Myrtle. Our original one died last year, it was mature when we bought the house 21 years ago but I have no idea how long it had been in the yard before us.

What a difference 2 weeks makes Chele. Looks like your Redbud has no intention of stopping now.
