Gardening can hurt!

Category: Garden Novice | Posted: Wed May 23, 2007 9:30 pm

I had planned to finish weeding on Monday as well as redecorate our porch. Instead, I ended up in the emergency room thinking I had another blood clot in my lung. After extensive tests, being transported by ambulance from one hospital to the next and back again for more tests, the doctor came to the conclusion that I had torn a ligament in my chest. He asked what I had been doing and I said hoeing the garden. So, for the time being, I'm not allowed to do anything like that until this heals. It's hard for me to look out there and not do anything. I did get a Mole Moover stake in the mail today and will get that out in the yard tomorrow but I guess that's it for any gardening for awhile.

Whoa, so glad it was nothing more than a torn ligament. Do what the Dr. ordered.

I tried using a hoe years ago and it hurt like the dickens so I either use a gardening fork for the big stuff or a trowel for little bits.

I think I'll buy a gardening fork. The area I was working on gets like cement when dry and even though I had wet it down, it was still really dry and hard. I have only drought tolerant plants there and you wouldn't think weeds could grow there but they do! No more hoeing for me, that's for sure.

Ouch! A hoe can do that alright, easy to overdo it and not know. Glad it wasn't anything more serious.

So sorry to hear about the torn ligament EileenT. Take good care of yourself and I hope the pain isn't too bad.

Try to take it easy Eileen T!

Wow. Be careful.
When you look out at the garden 'blurr' you eyes a bit...you won't see those weeds at all. :)

Hope you are feeling better soon. Just look past the weeds and enjoy the beauty of your garden.

Oh my eileen!!! I hope you get better soon!! Maybe we could pitch in to get one of those 'gopher sticks' and you could sit in your lawn chair and grab some weeds w/ease! LOL. Hey, if they are good for grabbing cereal boxes off the top shelf, why not pick some weeds w/out straining ?! (;

I sympathise with you Eileen, I should hate not to do a little something in the garden.
Hope you have a speedy recovery. xxx

Thanks, everyone, for your kind words and garden wisdom. I'm so antsy to get out there and do something. Yesterday, I propped up the bouganvilla as it's leaning so low and cleaned the porch. I had planned to get out and weed today and transplant some flowers but I'm still in pain so will wait until this weekend. Maybe I'll get some help from the family. One can hope!
