Great at putting m in, terrible dealing with any probs after

I am a novice gardener. I have for the last two years found and planted local species plants in our hawaiian back yard. The great thing about our yard is we live on the rainy side of the island so water is plentiful most of the year. Sometimes toooo much!

We have planted pinnaple, bananna, limes, navel oranges, tangerines, plumerias, orchids Hibiscus and many local plants.

Im real good at putting them in the ground. The thing Im not good at is recongizing what to do when problems exist.

Some of the problems lately have been:

1. Hibiscus plants get leaves eaten.
2. Blooms on orange trees are eaten off.
3. Dealing with weeds without poisining the water shed here with large amounts of roundup.
4. Birds eating grass seed.

Any knowledge of solutions to these would be helpful.
