Category: Cranbrooks Lawn and Garden Ornaments | Posted: Wed May 31, 2006 2:03 pm

Here are a few pictures of a waterfall , small water pond ,wishing well and planter box that i made from 8 yr old reclaimed fence boards.
the first picture is going to be a 4 ft water pond with a small water spout in the center. it will be lined with rubber.

this picture is of a 5 ft planter box .i found and old antique in the barn and thought it looked good with the box.

the next picture is of a 6 ft waterfall .also will be lined with rubber.

the last picture is a 7 ft wishing well with a planter box built in.

Everything above are all made from what used to be someones fence.

This is a birdhouse i am working on right now . i got the idea from a old hotel from the city that i had been living in .it was called the Wellington hotel. it was built in the late 1800,s . this birdhouse is over 5 1/2 ft high and wide. it has about 90 apartments. the wood is 120 yr old reclaimed barn wood which almost ended up being burnt on the fire pit.

there is a robin siting on the peak of the first picture.
the first arbor is made from 60 year old spruce.

thanks

Category: Cranbrooks Lawn and Garden Ornaments | Posted: Sat May 27, 2006 12:25 pm

Thank you for the nice comments. i am pretty sure the birds know they have it pretty good. i wasn't sure if they would nest that close to each other but they seem to like it. i see 6 or 7 birds on them all day long especially in the morning.
i can hear babies in them now.

one day when i was sitting outside a farmer drove by in a combine .he stopped and asked me if i would build him a birdhouse for his father. he said he would give me all the wood i would need. he gave me a barn to tear down.
this is what it looked liked. it gave me enough lumber to build hundreds of them.

Welcome to my one of a kind woodworking projects.

Category: Cranbrooks Lawn and Garden Ornaments | Posted: Sat May 27, 2006 11:36 am

Hi everyone, I am john from Cranbrook Ontario.
Welcome to my blog.
I am a 41 yr old semi retired carpenter due to an injury. i used to build houses for over 20 yrs.

I have two children. my son Jamie is 23 yrs old and my daughter Jacquie is 22 . my hobbies are woodworking , gardening, art and nature.

since I am not able to work at a full time i spend most of my time in my shop building unique one of a kind lawn ornaments.

In the past 6 months i have been getting a lot of attention for my Extreme birdhouses. in December i won 1 st place in a woodworking contest on a woodworking site. i also have had 2 newspapers recently do stories on the birdhouses and a major Canadian woodworking magazine wants to do an article.

It all started by one little house that i built. this is the first bird house that i built.it is 2 ft square and has 6 rooms.
