What a Job!

Category: Current Garden Project | Posted: Tue Apr 22, 2008 1:46 pm

I spent my weekend cleaning out at the house. It's such a mess. There were chairs galore in there from the church. I hauled all of them out to the dumpster and by Sunday morning they were all gone. It really surprised me as they were covered in mouse turds. YUCK! You just never know! I've gotten the kitchen almost cleaned up. At least it's started. It was used for a church pantry for those less fortunate. It was not active and the mice moved in. They have really made a mess. I hauled all of the food that wasn't in cans out and left only a few cans that weren't too outdated. I don't know how old it can be before it's not good anymore. All of the cans are dated of 2007. I guess I'll leave some but the nasty turdy ones will go out like the others did. I just can't see anyone wanting them. I have 4 huge shelving units to tear down, clean and move upstairs. I have done one. It's a job that's for sure! But as I want to live there it must be done! My excitment builds the more I clean! I'm just not quite sure just how far I can go. I want to pull up the carpet but my brother didn't actually say anything when I mentioned it. I guess I'll have to ask again. Sometimes when he doesn't know what the answer is he just doesn't say anything at all. I've gotten to know him pretty well. LOL
well, the cleanup saga goes on!
OH! I almost forgot! I planted a bareroot Redbud in the front yard. Hopefully it will grow and be beautiful!!! My first planting there!

It's a lovely day in Paradise!

Category: Current Garden Project | Posted: Thu Apr 17, 2008 3:01 pm

HELLO Gardenstewers!!!!!
What a beautiful day! I slept until 6:30 am this morning. I'm usually up at 5 to get to work by 7 so this was a real treat for me.
I'm getting more excited the warmer it gets! Excited about moving! I still don't exactly know when that will be but I think a little at a time until I'm completely out of the tin box I live in now. YIPPPEEEE!!!!!!!! A YARD! YIPPPPEEEEE!!!!!
I can hardly contain myself!
The farm house I'm moving to is the one I lived in with my parents for a few years as a teenager. There has been no one in the house for about 2 years now and it's over run by mice and used for storage for the church. It smells so bad you get hit when you walk in the door. This means the carpet will have to be torn out and the beautiful hardwood floors will have to be bleached and then refinished. I remember the floors throughout the house were beautiful at one time. I don't know why anyone would cover them.
This house is actually the parsonage to the church my dad was the minister at many years ago. My brother is now the pastor and after 2 years ago of me asking if I could move in to the house he has finally decided it would be better to have someone living in it. Duh! LOL
I will live there for 2 years and then build my own small house. I'm very anxious to do this. The time spent in the parsonage will give me a chance to save my money to put towards a home of my own. This is a new adventure for me and that's a good thing!
The existing flowers there are, Iris. Period. That's it. Oh, maybe a little sedum but there's just not much. No one ever took care of this house and the yard but to mow it. So this will definately be a blank slate for me. I will work hard and make it beautiful for when they (the church) get ready to sell it and move to their new property in 2 years.
I could just jump up for joy!!!!!

OMG I Love Monday Mornings!

Category: Miscellanous | Posted: Mon Apr 14, 2008 1:57 pm

Well.......I came in again this Monday morning expecting to be able to get back to doing just my job, settle in to my routine again and BLAM! Hit again. This has been going on for 3 months now. I am about at the end of my rope. I can't call in sick I wouldn't do my boss like that. I really want to tho. Hehehehe!
Oh Well, I will have to chalk it up to learning another job and just get really good at it. YUCK! I must admit I kinda expected it. I was just hoping!
I hope all Stewies have a fabulous day today!

Yippppeeeee Friday!

Category: Current Garden Project | Posted: Fri Apr 11, 2008 1:58 pm

Good Friday to all! What a lovely day it is. Rain and all!
I haven't felt this good in quite a while and just want to share my mood. Silly I know but I gotta get them while I can. LOL
I am planning on repotting some of my seedlings this weekend along with so many other things going on!
Just a little about what I am attempting to do here. I would like to share it so I can get some feedback hopefully. Maybe I should just start a thread. Hmm.....what to do??????
Well, I'll start here and see what happens.

Okay.....I work at a local Treatment Center for Adolscents with Drug, Alcohol and Behavior problems. I have done my homework and have presented a program for the Residential Units to begin doing some flower gardening. It has been approved.
There would be three gardens 5'x8' and one of them would be mostly vegetables. That unit is long term kids that would actually get to see the fruit of their work.
I'm getting ready to till the ground so we can start planting the second week in May. I think this would be good. The flowers would mostly be annuals since they pop up pretty early and the kids could actually put them in the barrels we have around the building. I have started the seeds and they are coming up very quickly here inside. Most of the kids are pretty excited about this and it sure makes me excited to get started myself!!!
This is going to be fun. I hope anyway. I can only take one unit out at a time, 5 kids per one staff. One of our units is a girls unit and they can only go out when the boys are not there. This may pose a challenging situation but I'm sure we'll work it out. I hope I'm not taking on too much here. We'll see I suppose.
Any feed back would be appreciated!

Moving

Category: Current Garden Project | Posted: Tue Apr 08, 2008 6:35 pm

Wow! Just got all my gardens to look beautiful and perfect and now I'm moving (I hope). It all started about 7 years ago when I moved in to the Mobile Home I'm in now. There is a lot of shade and I really didn't know what to do. What a challenge it has been! But I've learned what flowers and plants love the shade, what will tolerate it and what just doesn't want any part of it!!!
I have many Hosta, Huechera, Bluebells,Bleeding Hearts. I'll be digging up most of these when I move for sure.
The place I'm moving to is mostly sunny and that's going to be so much fun. This is going to be so easy! There are so many Sun Loving Flowers to plant I can barely contain myself!!!
I'm so looking forward to being able to grow roses and so many other beautiful flowers!
