Crape Myrtle flower buds are not poisonous, in case your child should decide to snack on them. This according to the Poison Control operator I called in a panic several years ago.

a favorite in virginia is "Catawba" it can be grown as a speciman plant or allowed to grow larger, lovely dark lavender blooms from june until september
