I have had this plant for 15 years or so although it wasn't that old in this pic. I let grow where ever it wants to until it dies down. Maybe one day I will take it out of it's pot and really let it go wild in the greenhouse.

The photo i've submitted is a very young elephantipes, but you get an idea of the lush foliage which emerges every winter and dies down again under the heat of summer. From Africa, it is a monoecious summer deciduous geophyte, likes winter rains and dry hot summers. The amazing thing is the above ground caudex, which enlarges as it grows to potentially almost 3m in the right conditions. It resembles sectioned,layered,cork ( this plant to young to have developed this feature.)If you're in the right climate, an amazing plant to grow
