Two of these lilies were here when we came, and after seven years have bloomed (ah, the power of compost in loosening the soil!). The lily is about 12"-14" tall, has three to four strappy leaves (which don't show because the weed eater kind of shortened them), and these lovely red blooms. Can anyone identify them for me, please?
Here is a photo from yesterday--more of the buds have opened this morning. I have day lilies, and the foliage isn't similar, even when it hasn't been hit by the weed whacker!
Hippeastrum vittatum (Commercial Amaryllis) It will return every Spring and they typically have 3-4 blooms.
Oh boy, ever since I saw The Music Man, I've wanted an Amaryllis! She was the little girl taking piano lessons from Miss Marion, the librarian. Now that I've got that off my chest, thank you for the identification Purple, Toni, and Donna. It seems happy where it is, so I'll just protect it from the evil weed whacker and enjoy it each spring!
