Another of Mrs. E's unknown plants she has for the sale. All she could tell me was that it gets purple flowers. Big help, huh? Zone 8-9 in SE Texas. My guess was a type of Salvia or Sage... it looks familiar. Thoughts? unknown - maybe Salvia/Sage? ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
Is there any odor to the foliage? A shot from the side might help people recognize it. The flowers definitely should, sending vibes for them to show up soon! Is it known when they are expected?
Sorry Purple... that's all the info I have and I don't think I can get another photo. I need to have all of the plants ID tags done by the end of the week or at least by next Tuesday... wouldn't it be wonderful if it bloomed before then? I may just have to list it as "surprise!"
It looks like Mealy Blue Sage (Salvia Farinacea) http://www.wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=SAFA2 Definitely a wonderful native, very hardy, blooms spring through fall, beloved by bees, and shade tolerant. The only drawback is that it spreads easily.
Thanks Jane... the leaves do look like it. I was thinking along the lines of Salvia leucantha (Mexican Sage). Maybe I'll just be vague and say it's a "Sage" and not get specific on the type.
No apologies Purple. I appreciate any and all input. And no... it's not mine. An older lady in town, Mrs. E, started a plant sale at the church years ago. I'm quickly being groomed to take it over. She would just put the plant out and didn't have any information about them, sometimes they wouldn't even be named! So last year, I made "labels" for everything, showing their picture, giving their common and botanical names and listing their hardy zones, light, water, spacing requirements and a little sentence or two of extra info. It was a big hit! I'm doing the same this year and this was one of the plants she "just can't remember what it's called".
