Do you know if it is running bamboo or the type that forms clumps? How far has it spread into your yard. Is it encroaching into a planted area?

It is the running type. It is only at the fence as of right now. We rent this house out to people and have a new renter moving in this month. And the fence isnt far off of the side of the house and we have a wrap around garden. So it ios getting close to planted areas....

One of the better ways to control running bamboo is to install a barrier, preferably a metal one about 30 inches deep, angled so as to force the encroaching roots up.

Running bamboo is one of the most invasive plants on the planet!
Follow Jerry's advice about the barrier. Even better,
dig out the bamboo and get rid of it, roots and all. No reason for your garden to be invaded.

The runners are the easiest to pull/dig. They are generally near the soil surface. Pull quick and keep pulling till all the runner is back to the fence line so it doesn't form a clump. Once the clump is formed it is a really tough job getting it dug.

If you cant control it, use some broadleaf herbicide to get rid of it or use some extra strength fertilizer on it if you wont harm your own plants. this will burn the plant and kill it.

My vote is for a barrier, with a law suit a close runner up.

I'm not sure there is an herbicide equal to long term control of bamboo.
