Anybody know what this insect is? Friend or foe?

We've been having a problem with grubs and I'm wondering if this is the adult.

 Oh I don't like the look of that!! It looks like some sort of moth emerging from a crysalis to me but I have no idea what it is.

I've checked my books Netty but couldn't find anything like your piccie. Of course my books are all on Britsh insects which I suppose doesn't help. Could you maybe take the photograph to a natural history museum or maybe a large garden centre where they could maybe help you ID your strange bug?

Netty is that two 'critters'? The orange/red with spots kinda looks like something I had last year. I was told it was a boxwood elder beetle. They were all over a tree beside my house and on part of the house. Finally they just disappeared!

So glad you got your insect ID'd Netty. I just hope it flew off before doing any damage in your garden.
