    BUSH ( photo / image / picture from Clay_22's Garden )
This bush was at my place before I moved in. Triangular green foliage that doesn't drop in the winter and has red berries in the fall. I want to trim down some but don't want to do so until I get more info about this bush.

Can you get a close-up photo of the leaves so we can see more detail.
From a distance it looks like a holly of some sort but a closer look at the leaves will be a great help.

My first thought was holly too. A close-up of the leaves, as Toni said, would really help us to ID the bush for you.

    That's Ilex aquifolium (English holly)
Mostly found in the NW U.S. or portions of Canada, not usually in New York but it must like the area...that's a good size plant.
    Also called European Holly

You're welcome. Careful of those leaves, they look like could really hurt if you accidently run into it.

Wear gloves and a long sleeved shirt. They have very sharp spines on the edges of the leaves. You can prune it to any shape you want , but use hand pruners not a shrub/hedge shears. Any leaf you damage will stay damaged until it naturally drops off. (your neighbors will thank you also, because it will look far more natural).
