I was given a small catapala tree at least 10 years ago. It had seeded itself in a 5 gal bucket. It was about 3' tall when I planted it and is now a whopping 6' tall. It is suppose to get white flowers on it in the spring time. It has never had a single bloom. It is planted in full sun. Is there anything I should be doing to get it to bloom?
They typically bloom around 7 years after planting, when doesn't depend on how tall it is but the growing conditions. They do not flower until after 275 growing degree days....meaning that if you are in the higher elevations of New Mexico it might not be hot enough to promote blooming and since you are at an elevation of 6700 feet your temperatures may not be hot for those 275 days for it to bloom.
