A friend's sister gave me cuttings of both these plants. The sister said 'don't cut these back, just leave them alone'. Am I right in thinking they should be cut back? Don't they only bloom once a year? The plants are so big and top heavy that they look ugly just lying over! What to do?

The plants are probably bulbs and not cuttings. The purpose of leaving the foliage intact is to feed the bulb for it's next bloom cycle. You can take the foliage and kinda fold it and tie it off with a rubber band or something so that it looks less obvious, or just tie the foliage in a knot.

Sharon, you can see what I know!!! :D :D
Yes, bulbs with the foliage and flowers still intact.
Will tie the foliage off as it is certainly long enough! Thanks a bunch. ;)

Yes,for sure Sharon told you right. If I want to move mine I do it after they bloom Gaylyn. They will go dormant once they take to the ground and I never water them after the blooms are gone and the leaves will die back sooner or later.I cover my bulbs good with leaves and mulch for the winter and then in the spring I pull it back away from my amaryllis so the top part of the blub is out of the soil.

Glendann, do you wait until the leaves go totally brown or mushy before you move daffs? I have to split my narcissi this year and can't figure out when to do it.

I would wait for them to die off if it were me.

Thanks. That is what I was thinking. Maybe in another 4-5 weeks.
