GF has become interested in Dahlias. Who here grows them and do you plant seed or buy started plants? What are the good varieties, preferably smaller plants. I know the big "Dinnerplate Dahlias" grow on taller plants but her pots are more like 5-10 gallon and she prefers plants a foot tall or so, maybe shorter. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I grow both 'Dinnerplate Dahlia's' and smaller ones too. The large blooming ones I grew from bulbs and dig up and bring them inside each winter. The shorter/smaller varieties grow just over a foot tall and I buy plants in flats from the greenhouse. The small ones would do much better in pots.
