We headed out to the lottie yesterday to pick strawbs and give water. For good measure, we did quite a bit of weeding along the walking path. What a day ! Here a few foto's from the strawberry sort (Dar Royale) that we use for jamming primarily. After a long day in the lottie, we came home with these: After washing and cleaning them we plopped them on the the scales to see how much sugar we would need to make jam. Minus the weights of the containers it came out to 2 kilo's clean. I saved these four to eat right off the stem--two for me and two for the bride: The end result was 8½ jars of jam. They are nestled on a shelf of the pantry. I wish that you guys could be here to sample them.
Nice red strawberries Sjoerd,..not a trace of green on the fruit,..mmmmm i like strawberry jam in particular when i see the fruit its made from,..may you both enjoy
SILKIE-- Meid, those strawbs WERE delicious ! The jam came out good as well. Thanks for your comments. PHILIP--Yes, the strawberries were particularly good this year. Not very many incompletely fertilized ones. I do not like that because when processing them, the gnarly forms costs extra time because I have to cut the deep folds out. Thgis year there were so few that I just ate them as I picked them...hahaha--any excuse for a little taste test, eh. We are enjoying them-- eating strawbs, short cake and whipped cream or yoghurt every day.
I planted several varieties of strawberry this year to try and find the best and it is not hard to decide. Maestro are way out in front. The taste is heavenly. They grow large and they keep producing. Now if only they would make some runners.
ODI--Thanks for that strawb sort tip. I may look into getting some this august. We'll see. 2OF--You are right about that. Thanks for admiring the strawbs.
