Here's one for the botanical detectives:

I don't know where my head was, but a couple years ago I put a bed of crushed sea shells down the side of my yard, to include my once-resplendent orange tree. It was pretty wan last year, and this year only gave up about 12 oranges total. It's not completely dead, but there are only a couple branches to one side with blossoms. It's got kind of a dual trunk on it, so I think one side it totally shot, but maybe I can salvage the other. Did I poison it with the shells? Can I do anything to rectify the situation at this point?

Maybe a huge Calcium buildup from the shells, but that's not usually bad. Probably a high pH. So you need to find something to reduce the pH level. :-? You might want to get your soil tested.

Compost and manure will work to lower the pH. As will ground rock sulfur.
