German Toast Hawaii

    Recently, I saw a random photo of these on the internet. I probably haven't thought about these in 50 years. My mom used to make these sandwiches when I was in grade school.

    I don't know how she learned about them. We lived in rural southwestern Illinois. We had no contact with anyone in what was then West Germany, where I guess they were popular. Maybe they were a recipe on a pineapple can... Also, she put bacon on top of the cheese, instead of ham under the pineapple. I don't recall the maraschino cherry, but maybe!



    I searched and searched and searched before I found these instructions!

    Now I'll have to get a can of pineapple rings and some (vegetarian) bacon, and make some for New Year's day! Real nostalgia!
