Got this from Hubby's sister last year. She wasn't sure of what it was. Just said that it needed shade. I'm not sure if it's getting too much shade or what... the leaves aren't looking so good. I've been waiting for the little buds to open... but thought maybe I could get it ID'd now just in case I've got it in the wrong spot. Thanks! unknown_cluster of maroon buds ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) unknown_cluster of maroon_close ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
Good morning, my first feeling is that it is a clerodendrum, they are very nice rambling type plants, hope this helps.
Chocolate to my rescue again! You're exactly right! Blooms started opening today. Rose Glory Bower ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Found this bit of info on it: Clerodendrum bungei Common Names: rose glory bower, Kashmir bouquet, Mexican hydrangea, Cashmir bouquet Family: Verbenaceae (verbena or vervain Family) Now... my next problem... what's going on with it's leaves? My first thought was too much sun. But from what I've read, it can take some sun. This one is under the shade of a pecan tree and only gets evening sunlight. Too much water? I doubt it. I'm pretty good at not over-watering stuff.... unless of course this plant prefers it really dry. Or does it need even more water? And... it's in a container. I didn't see any signs of insects when I checked it this evening. Hmmm.... guess I'd better do some more reading. Thanks again Chocolate!
Good evening, sometimes with some plants in my garden the leaves change colour ever so slighty when the plant begins to flower.I dont think it is a big problem, mine is in dappled shade and certainly not dry.
What I read about it, it likes sun and tolerates drought. It seems to have liked it better where I had it previously. It got a bit more sun there. I think I'll move it back from underneath the tree hold back a little on the watering. Thanks for the help! Just curious... is your's in the ground? I read that they can be very invasive?
Yes mine is in the ground and loving being under a tree, it sometimes thinks it will like it better up in the tree but it is very easy to trim back to bush size, the leaves are lovely also arent they?I have a bright red/scarlet one and it just rambles along, I have grown some from cuttings too.
One of the clusters is fully opened now! Clerodendrum bungei ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
I'm very tempted to put it in the ground... but not so sure I want them rambling everywhere. Hmmm... decisions decisions... Maybe along the driveway fence??
