In addition to the one my husband found I saw it in action yesterday Stash number 2 ( photo / image / picture from Kiasmum's Garden ) Stash number 3 ( photo / image / picture from Kiasmum's Garden ) Stash number 4 ( photo / image / picture from Kiasmum's Garden ) No doubt there will be more...I'm hoping for some 'volunteer' plants.
Nice squirrel foto's. They can be quite pesky, can't they. I hope this fellow did not destroy any plants. Here it is the jays that take and plant all manner of things like peanuts, acorns and so forth. I have never heard of squirrels using planting pots though.
I don't have squirrels so I think he's kind of cute! I know they can be destructive though :-? Perhaps you will get some odd ball seedlings popping up where you least expect them!
I hate it when they take them and bury them in the snow or under a leave...my dogs think they are for them.
Aaaah, the infamous grey squirrel(Sciurus carolinensis) unlike many of its cousins that hoard large amounts to eat during the winter this variety of tree dweller hides its loot wherever it can, and then promptly forgets where it hid the goodies. However, the grey squirrel has a nose so sensitive that it can smell an acorn through 8 inches of snow. I have watched it dig up lunch in the middle of the winter, amazed that his persistent digging yielded a prize. As it searches for food it will happen across a long forgotten stash. Or some other squirrels cache of snacks. Jerry
The squirrels here have rearranged my garden several time so far this spring. I read that dried blood keeps them away. It seems to work until it rains. But it also keeps the birds away.
Unless it does a huge amount of damage I'll keep on thinking its cute. It does wind the dogs up though and its a good job there is usually a gate between them. I'd heard that they have a bad memory Jerry time will tell for this little guy or gal.
