Recently I entered an online competition and was informed that mine time slot was 14:00 UTC + 8 hours. OK at first I thought it was since my area is UTC + 8 hours so I guess it must be 2pm here since my reference point here is +8 hours and since it is 14:00 UTC so I guess it is referring to 2pm here ... Oops!!! :setc_025: I think I just came out of a senior moment, the time here should be 14:00 + 8:00 = 22:00hours which is 10pm right?

We all have moments like that KK so you're not alone. At least you realised your mistake.

+8 is correct KK. Eileen is 0 UTC and I am -5 UTC. The official clock watchers now have time down to 19 decimal places but for the rest of us that don't want to be late, UTC works just fine.

P.S. I once attended a seminar at Symmetricom, Inc. on the accuracy of time and saw, at the time, one of the world's two most accurate clocks. The size of a small refrigerator, the two clocks, 450 miles apart would 'talk' to each other and compare time. Only computers could find that morsel of information exciting.

Thanks, Jerry; your post elicited a big GRIN from this old retired metrology/electronics technician... Metrology = study of measurement, accuracy, precision; not Meteorology = the study of atmospheric conditions (commonly referred to as 'weather.'
