Hi all, I've been wondering whether I had moles or snakes. But today I caught the bugger in the act of making his hole. It looks like a wasp, completely black and a orange stripe on his back.

I am wondering: is this a pest I want to keep, or find a way to get rid of?

Any Ideas on what it is?

    Thank you,

I've been looking through all my books and I think your insect may be a Great Golden Digger wasp.

It eats cicadas so maybe it's one you should allow to stay around.
