Nature is fascinating stuff. We have several pieces of raw (uncut and unpolished) pieces of petrified wood rambling around our house and yard from the edges of a local lake, but I had no idea how awe inspiring it could be. Outside of Holbrook, Arizona is the Petrified Tree National Park with a long ago forest that was buried and frozen in time. What natural disaster buried such a huge forest boggles the mind. Of course the current plant life has its own fascination for me also. image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

Your photos are wonderful, and brought back a memory. When I was little, mama, daddy, and I drove from Illinois to Oregon to visit my sister whose husband was in the air force. We stopped by the petrified forest in Arizona and were fascinated by the petrified wood. At that time you could purchase dime-sized pieces of petrified wood, and daddy bought one for me. I still have it in my jewelry box. I just got it out, looked at it and felt the roughness, and remembered a trip taken years ago.
    Thank you!

We have an archaeologist in the family and it's amazing what can be found in petrified wood. Not only is the wood beautiful but the fossils it can contain are really interesting.

I've never heard of the Petrified forest, but it looks beautiful. I'm off to 'google' it!

Marlingardener, you can purchase table size pieces made for coffe tables outside the park...if you have the money. There is lots of it all over that part of Arizona.

Thanks Hank and everyone else for the comments. Not much time with work engulfing my life but it is only a short time before I retire. Ya all take care. I pop in still to browse occasionally and get the warm greetings from you all always makes my heart sing :smt055
