After the possum I posted last week, I was thinking of this forum when I was 10 metres up a Boab tree (Brachychiton rupestris) and saw this little fellow. He popped his head up from an Ivory Curl (Buckinghamia celssisima).

He's a different species of possum, a ringtail - admittedly not as attractive as our brushtail and rather less common.

Sorry about my $20 phone photo. The ivory curl is looking good, though.

You were 10 meters up a tree!! :smt101 I take it from your avatar photograph that you are a tree surgeon either that or you haven't grown up and enjoy climbing tall trees. :smt045 I'm glad you were up there though or we wouldn't have the photograph of your Ringtail Possum. :)

Around here arborists hire someone else (dumber) to go that far up a tree. You might consider it . . . .
Cute possum, though. I love Australian wildlife!

And I won't get more than 5 feet (1.5 meters) off the ground! Thank you for posting the photo. It is interesting to see animals from different parts of the world. I also enjoy the different plants. I looked up the boab tree and it is unique. The shape of the trunk reminded me of a wine bottle! The Ivory Curl reminds me of the Fringe tree (Chionanthus retusus) we have here.

I had a look and see what you mean. From a distance they do look alike when flowering.

So that is how it looks like in the day. I was not able to see one in the day when I was in Brisbane 2 years ago. Thanks Brisbane tree.
