Had one at the water trough this morning ! For some reason all the regular birds scattered !
I watched the robin and he went a few feet to the flowers under the elm tree and hid ! Stayed there under the leaves from spider lilies about10 minutes till he thought the coast was clear ! Have never seen them do that before !

It sorta sounds like a raptor flew over.

An interesting and unusual happening to observe. Birds typically scatter as a group reaction. A thought about the robin is that it is sick or not feeling well and chose to hide vs. fly.

Don`t think it was sick,, he just sat down and watched his surroundings and the sky ! We have had a sparrow hawk hanging around last couple of months ! I looked but didn`t see it,,doesn`t mean it wasn`t there though ! Robin took off later !

Mart, did you have high winds today? We did, and I saw birds taking shelter away from the wind--sparrows, wrens, and finches. The Ashe Junipers were filled with birds seeking a leeward spot. Perhaps your robin was just trying to "sit out" the wind.

We had a breeze but not that bad ! Later all the sparrows cardinals came back ! Wind was mild when the robin was there ! He seemed to know what he was doing and hiding from something overhead ! He had evidently done this before ! I just had not seen it !
