This salvia (or ornamental sage, if you prefer) was growing in my yard, and I've always referred to it as simply "the salvia." But I hear that it's an annual here, and I want another one. It grows in full sun and clay soil. Long bloom period. I saw a picture in a catalogue of a salvia cultivar called 'Lady in Red' and thought it looked like mine. Any ideas on what this salvia is?

Sorry, but this is my only picture of it.

Looks like the Salvia elegans - Pineapple Sage I grew a few years ago.
Rub the leaves and see if the fragrance on your fingers reminds you of pineapple.

I'm afraid that very few plants (let alone annuals/tender perennials!) actually have leaves right now.

Will the Salvia splendens tolerate heavy clay?
