It's the end of summer, and the Sweet Autumn Clematis is doing its thing.
I want a privacy fence to replace the chain link fence we have. It's near the bottom of the wish list for our backyard. Probably not going to happen for a while, so I planted several Sweet Autumn to cover the fences. Look at what the drought has done to the turf! :'( With watering restrictions, we gave up watering the grass, and focused on ornamentals.
I also planted an Ampelopsis Vine several years back, which spans about 50 feet now. It's a good screen, and is covered with the attractive blue berries.
These vines help create a sense of privacy. However, they are not maintenance free. You need to keep them in check and be the boss. I love them right now when the Clems burst into bloom, and have their nice fragrance. My neighbors always ask me what it is... every year :D

Looks great! I had an autumn clematis pop up in my hedge a few years back ... No idea where it came from but I like it!

'Smells better than a fence'...and looks great into the bargain. I could certainly live with a privacy fence that looked as good at that. :stew2:

Your Clematis plants are looking super. I have a couple of new ones, but they are just beginning. I hope that in a few years they will look as marvelous as yours.
Yours look as if they will afford you a good degree of privacy.

I really like this type of Clematis.

Sjoerd, It is my favorite Clem. I just wish it had a longer bloom time. It has a reputation for being rather invasive in certain settings. That is why I have dug up clumps from my friends; Nancy, Kate and Mary. The plants have their names. :)

Simply gorgeous, that is much better than a wooden fence!

That was a cute thing to do, Kay.
Well, mine are still quite young, and so not nearly so nice as yours. I need for them to grow profusely.

I had a volunteer come up in a fence row which I didn't notice til it bloomed. Didn't pay much attention to it but wondered what it was for a while- until it made seed pods, they're un-mistakenly clematis.
