This story takes you from planting growing harvesting braiding and finally preserving our first ever garlic patch. Give it a peek and tell us what you think as we prepare to do it again. http://cappyandpegody.blogspot.com/2016/09/dipping-our-toes-in-garlic-harvesting.html
Cappy, those are beautiful garlic "toes"? I usually run hot water over the garlic clove while rubbing it and the skin slips off rather easily.
Delighted you saved them all,..hard work indeed peeling all those toes and nice to see them all sitting nicely in jars
Thanks yall we have used some of the garlic and it is great. Last night we flash fried a couple steaks in the garlic oil and wooooooo mommy! they were good. We are already planning for next years crop we hope to put in in a few weeks.
Cappy, you perhaps could google this to be certain. I read some place that garlic saved in oil is only edible for a short while. Never having tried it, I don't know. I hope what I read isn't fact.
Hmmm we are keeping it in the fridge and so far its good. We fried a couple steaks in a lil of the oil and they were wonderful and ya could taste the garlic. We are suing the toes in dayly cooking and they still seem ok and taste good. We will keep this updated and let yall know we have discussed heating and canning it in the future and may try that with some bought garlic this winter. We will God willing keep yall posted on our results.
