Didnt know how else to describe it, Im not good with leaf types, etc :/ ( photo / image / picture from TheBip's Garden ) The leaves on the flower stem, which is approx. 2 ft long (from the crown)(!) are smooth, instead of lobed like the ones in the pic ( photo / image / picture from TheBip's Garden ) Thats my pinkie finger to show how small the flower is ( photo / image / picture from TheBip's Garden )
That is chickory. it has straggly stems, but beautiful periwinkle blue flowers. Pretty much a weed, but if you harvest the roots you can roast them and use them as a coffee substitute. I have never done it, only read that it is used for that.
Interesting, I wonder where it came from? I dont remember this growing previous years Or maybe its just because we're in a drought and havent mowed in about 2 months so the weeds are getting to grow?
Funny you should mention about it being used liked coffee. I don't drink coffee, but was picking up some for my brother, and I noticed one kind said "with chickory". I wondered, briefly, what it was. Interesting.
