Unknown weed- tiny flower, taproot, 2 different leaf types

    Didnt know how else to describe it, Im not good with leaf types, etc :/

    The leaves on the flower stem, which is approx. 2 ft long (from the crown)(!) are smooth, instead of lobed like the ones in the pic

    That is chickory. it has straggly stems, but beautiful periwinkle blue flowers. Pretty much a weed, but if you harvest the roots you can roast them and use them as a coffee substitute. I have never done it, only read that it is used for that.

    Interesting, I wonder where it came from? I dont remember this growing previous years o_O Or maybe its just because we're in a drought and havent mowed in about 2 months so the weeds are getting to grow?

    Funny you should mention about it being used liked coffee. I don't drink coffee, but was picking up some for my brother, and I noticed one kind said "with chickory". I wondered, briefly, what it was. Interesting.
