I try to garden like this but I think I can change even more. https://www.growingagreenerworld.com/weedless-gardening/ Reduce (or eliminate?) tilling. Mulch with arborist chips or leaves. Try not to disturb the soil too much. Here, with wood chips weed seeds get distributed by people mowing, which I have no control over. The chips don't degrade fast enough to pile on more each year. But tree leaves work out perfectly. He also talks about straw. With our Spring rains, straw breaks down too fast. But I can and do use cardboard from shipping boxes.
Music to my ears. I agree with those methods. A couple of days ago we rolled back our thick layer of the plant debris mulch layer just far enough to plant the onion sets. We scratched the soil surface before gently pushing them in. We both kept making amazed sounds at how many worms there were ! I hope our onion harvest will be as good as last years’.
