Hi I live in southern BC and have planted 2 yarrow plants in my front west facing yard. we have had a fair bit of rainy weather and it is windy in that location. They look pretty good tho i noticed recently that the lower leaves seem to be yellowing. also, the plant is looking a little leggy. the blooms are still out in full force which I will cut off when they start going to seed. I just wonder if the excess water is causing leaves to turn yellow. AND when i trim flowers off, can I trim back a bit further to shorten plant and hopefully fill it out?
Hi Cooky. I don't have any answers for you... but I do have some Yarrow that is getting leggy and about to go to seed. I'll be watching here to see what advice is given.
I was reading up on this earlier this month and found most advice is to trim it back by half after it blooms. That encourages bushier growth as in most perennials and also will probably trigger more blooms.
Moonshine flowers grow to 2 ft tall max height, so there may not be a whole lot you can do to keep it short. I had one for some years before finally deciding I didnt like how floppy it would get. Now its sitting in a pot waiting for me to decide what to do with it and a Schwellenberg is in its place.
thank you all for your replies about leggy yarrows. i know what to do when bloom is finished. still would like to know what the yellowing of bottm leaves mean. too much water or what
