Learning From My Mistakes

Category: My Veggie Garden | Posted: Thu Jun 09, 2011 7:16 pm

well - so far, not so good. Unfortunately our weather hasn't been so great: too much rain, not enough sun and it hasn't even been very warm, not that it ever gets very warm 5 miles from the coast of Northern California, but nevertheless...
But I can't blame all my problems on the weather, I don't think. One thing I really wish I had done is written down and mapped out where I planted what. I'm having a hard time remembering. I did have some lettuce and some radishes come up and a few green beans. My potatoes seem to be doing well as do the strawberries and so far I haven't killed the tomatoes. I do wish that I had kept more of my tomato seedlings though. I only have three good plants and I thought it would be fun to nuture some of my volunteers and see what happens - I chose four (two from my raised bed and two that sprouted out of my daughter's mother's day present which had compost from her teacher's garden) All four of them are still very tiny and growing very slowly in a window sill.
I was very disappointed today to discover some kind of pest in my failed squash seeds. I've posted in the forum about that - hopefully I'll receive some good advice in that department.
All in all, I'm frustrated but not discouraged :)

gettin' started

been working really hard the last couple of weeks to get my garden in. tada! it's mostly in - except for some planned successive plantings and two empty spots that I'm waiting for inspiration for... possibly cucs or maybe brocolli...
so far I've planted 3 varieties of pumpkins, 4 varieties of pole beans, some zucchini, some spaghetti squash, lemon cucumbers, tomatoes, strawberries, corn, potatoes, 2 varieties of carrots, onions, radishes, several types of lettuce, cilantro, sunflowers and a couple mystery items. Should be interesting!
