Goodbye Garden!

Category: In the Garden | Posted: Thu Jul 05, 2012 5:24 pm

Well, we haven't seen so much as a drop of rain since the 10th of June. Temperatures are running 100 degrees every day. My garden is dying! I water and water, but it just hasn't been enough. Lost the squash and green beans. Tomatoes are starting to wither. This weather needs to break! It's depressing to see.

Been busy!

Category: In the Garden | Posted: Tue Jun 19, 2012 6:57 pm

Well, so far DH and I have put up 32 quarts of green beans, 10 quarts of squash, 5 quarts of carrots. We also made 6 pints of squash pickles, 23 pints of dill pickles, and 4 pints of dill beans. Started making salsa from our tomatoes yesterday. The garden has been bountiful! We have been blessed! (and of course we have eaten a great deal fresh!)oh, and we also pulled 50 onions and hung them up!

April 30, 2012. We have actual tomatoes on the vine! They are the size of marbles, but they are there! 3 beautiful little tomatoes! Yahoo! Green beans and peppers are blooming, and we have tiny squash growing too! now if we could just get a little rain to help things along.

The flowers are blooming, my yard smells.....well, delicious! The vegetables are off to a wonderful start. Tomatoes and squash are blooming and cucumbers are putting on runners. Bees are buzzing right along! No issues or problems, so far. So all in all I am a happy gardener today!

Tomatoes

Category: In the Garden | Posted: Thu Apr 05, 2012 2:57 pm

I was excited to see blooms on the tomato plants yesterday! I cant wait to have biscuits and tomatoes for breakfast! ( I know it will still be awhile ) My DH is just like a little kid when it comes to tomatoes! Every day he has something he wants to show me when I get home from work. It is really very sweet, but don't tell him I said that! I am hoping for a bumper crop this year, and with fifteen plants in bloom, it looks as though we are well on our way! I am surprised at how FAST everything is growing!

what's growing today

Category: In the Garden | Posted: Mon Apr 02, 2012 4:44 pm

We have been ambitious this year. In the veggie garden we are now growing: cucumbers, tomatoes, snap beans, carrots, cabbage, onions, potatoes, squash,& cayenne peppers. We did a little boiling water canning last year. We are looking forward to doing more this year, and we are going to try our hand at pressure canning too! I really enjoyed canning last year. It reminds me of my grandparents and great aunts who are no longer with us. I wish I had taken time to learn things like this from them when they were here.
