things have changed alot in my life
Category: misc. rambling | Posted: Wed Jan 27, 2010 1:29 am Things in my life are a lot different than they were when I was last on the Stew. We found out John has diabetes. It has taken a lot of getting used to watching carbs and being on a sugar-free diet. The good side...Hubby and I have both lost about 40 pounds. We feel so much better and have so much more energy. I haven't had a garden in a couple of years and I look so forward to growing and eating fresh veggies!! They are so expensive to buy at the grocery store. I no longer crave junk food. I now crave fresh veggies and try to cook as health as I can. A year ago I would have said "Oh there is nothing better than a big greasy slice of pizza". Now I don't think there is a better meal than a slice of salmon, wild rice and fresh veggies!! Yummy :) My sons are all almost grown. My youngest Alan is 18 and a senior in high school this year. In just a short 4 months he will be graduating and going on to college. My middle Brandon is 20 and works with his dad at the power plant in Jewett. Because of personal reasons I no longer have any contact with my oldest son or anything that pertains to him. It's a sad situation but it is for the best. Maybe one day he will straighten up his life and be a productive member of society. Until then I can only pray for him! For now I focus my attention on my two sons who are great young men!! Ok that's a little more than I intended to throw on you guys...sorry! Another thing in my life that has changed is my pets. I still have Callie my cat and my two parrots but I no longer have Bailey, Duke, Stachie or Bobby Ray Possum. They have all passed away. They are missed very much and I guess I will always miss them just like I do Bert and Bebe. Our newest furry babies are one big rough and rowdy Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Xanadu Jokers Are Wild...Joker for short and we have a little Dachshund named Waylon. I call him Way-Way but Hubby calls him Muttley!! :) My computer is being a pain and for some reason won't let me upload photos but as soon as I figure out the problem I will add photos of all my babies. I may transfer my pics for my laptop to my desktop and see if I can get them on that way...at least until we solve the problem. Well I guess that is all for my blog today. I know y'all are just rearing to hear more of my boring life!!! LOL :) Julie This blog entry has been viewed 896 times
I'm back!
Category: misc. rambling | Posted: Tue Jan 26, 2010 12:23 am I know the newer members will not know me but I'm sure the older members will. I'm glendann's niece. It's been a while since I've been on the Stew. I had a lot of personal issues that I was dealing with. Things are better or I should say I've learned to accepts things easier than I did in the past and it's time for me to get onto things I enjoy. I love gardening and in the past I used it as my get away. I have missed my garden and I'm going to start fresh this Spring. I've scattered my peony poppy seeds and see them popping up everywhere! I'm so excited to get a fresh start!! :) I look forward to catching up with all my old friends I've made and getting to know new friends!!! Julie This blog entry has been viewed 831 times
The return of the Huckleberry Hounds
Category: misc. rambling | Posted: Tue Oct 09, 2007 4:29 pm Some of you may remember this story from before I restarted my blog. For the new members and to refresh the memories of the older members I'll retell the story of the Huckleberry Hounds. Here's the pic of the hounds: ![]() Sadly Bert is not a member any longer. I sure do miss that boy! :( Ok now here is the story of the Huckleberry Hounds: When we were clearing our property to have our house moved in we found a huckleberry tree among the grown up brush. I love huckleberries! We decided the tree would definitely stay. A few years ago I noticed our dogs out by the tree scrounging around. I walked out to the tree and realized they were eating the ripe huckleberries that had fallen to the ground!:) It's the funniest thing to watch them, so that is how they received the name of the Huckleberry Hounds!:)I go out and pick handfuls and feed them to my dogs and they love it. This year I had to clear around the tree because when we mowed we would leave some of the growth around the tree for bunnies and birds to hide in but this year I cleared all that out because it had gotten way out of hand. With all of it cleared out the dogs have plenty of room this year to enjoy the berries. They are in hog heaven,ahem... I mean doggie heaven! LOL This blog entry has been viewed 1260 times
Just an update
Category: my garden | Posted: Thu May 10, 2007 12:42 am Well everything is growing and doing well in my gardens! I haven't done a whole lot in my gardens this year. I've been doing alot of scrapbooking and staying indoors since I've not been feeling well lately. As you can tell this year I've kinda gotten hung up on vines!!:) I have 4 clematis(2 blue and 2 pink), corkscrew vine, passion vine, gloriosa lily, wisteria, cardinal vine, cup and saucer vine, honeysuckle, moon vine( I have white ones and lavendar ones)heavenly potato vine and of course morning glories. My blanket flowers are doing great! ![]() ![]() I'm growing a type of Zinna I've never grown before this year. Peppermint Stick is the name if I recall rightly. ![]() I have another one blooming now that is white with red stripes. They are really pretty, the photo does not do them justice! This is my lavendar lantana. I have a little shephard's hook with a windchime hanging on it. Callie runs by it and hits it with her paw to make it make noise!hehe ![]() Here's a few more of Callie being a silly willy girl!! ![]() ![]() This is my new ice plant. It has green and white leaves and it's blooms are small and purple. It is a eye pleasing combination. ![]() Our veggie garden is doing good although we have not weeded it at all this year:( It really needs to be weeded as the weeds are out growing the plants. It is not like us to neglect our gardens but this year has not left us very healthy! We did dig our potatoes last weekend and our plants produced 30 pounds!! Which we thought was very excellent since we only planted the eyes of 3 pounds of starter potatoes! Our squash are starting to produce and I can't wait to have a big helping of squash cooked with lots of butter and sugar! Yummy!! Or fried would be nice too! We also have corn growing and our green beans are starting to bloom. The collard and mustard greens need to be picked. I'm not too big on greens but hubby loves them so I'll cook a batch for him soon!! We also have okra, cantaloupe and watermelon growing. The snow killed all but one of our cucumber vines but hopefully the one will produce a few. Well that's about all I have to update for now. This blog entry has been viewed 1309 times
Rest in Peace my little Bertie Boy!!
Category: our animals | Posted: Tue Apr 24, 2007 4:22 pm ![]() Yesterday was a very bad day for my family!! We lost our dear furry friend and companion Bert!!:( He was like a family member and I can't believe he is gone!! I tried to prepare myself for this day because we knew it would be soon, but you really can't prepare for this kind of loss!! I just lost my baby girl Bebe just a few months ago, so it is double hard this time!! Bailey and Duke are very depressed today also! I hope they will be ok! They won't play or eat even!! We got Bert from friends of ours in 1995. He was about 11 months old. Our friends worked during the day and had to leave him alone, he chewed a few too many things and Gale told David either the dog goes or I do!! Well that's how we ended up with the great fellow!! He never chewed up anything of ours, but I don't work and I was able to be right with him!! John worked with him and trained him to be a bird dog! He went along with John on many duck hunting expeditions and was a great bird dog! He loved to ride in the back of John's truck!! He was your typical loveable Chocolate Lab!! He filled many of our days with laughter due to his cute little antics!! He lived his life with lots of love and will be missed greatly!! Rest in peace my dear friend!! Peguin the Hermit Crab
Category: our animals | Posted: Thu Apr 19, 2007 3:24 pm This is Peguin,Alan's hermit crab. I have no idea where Alan came up with Peguin for his name, leave it to a teenager!teehehe!!! His shell is painted blue with skulls and lightening strikes drawn on it. He is pretty cool looking! ![]() ![]() Be very careful with hermit crabs! Although they seem harmless, they have claws that pinch and can reek havoc on your fingers! This happened while I was trying to get his photo. Guess he doesn't like to be photographed!lol! My finger has been cleaned and bandaged now!! OUCH!!! ![]() To take care of him daily we have to make sure he has 2 little bowls of water- one freshwater and one saltwater. We have to add a little sponge to each bowl to add humidity to the air of his home. We feed him several hermit crab food pellets along with some dehydrated fruit that we add a little water to, to rehydrate it. We have to spray his sand and soil with freshwater in a mister bottle daily to help keep up the humidity also. We have to also make sure he has another shell that is bigger than his current one in his home because as he grows he will emerge from his current residence and shed his outer shell grow any lost claws back and then move into the larger shell. Well as you can guess Mom does most of the daily routine and Alan gets to say Hey he is mine!!LOL!! You have now had your animal nature lesson for the day!lol!!
