Composting in my blog

Category: Coming soon! | Posted: Sat Jun 06, 2009 8:24 pm

Well, today I made several more purchases at OSH. Four bags of One Earth organic compost (it's even been approved by the U.S. composting council :D), 64 biodegradable planting containers, and some plant & flower labels.

So, I think it's safe to say that I'm good to go! Unfortunately today there are supposed to be several thunderstorms in our area as well as lightning so we will begin planting on monday which is all well and good because it gives me time to plan out my garden.

Keep on reading to find out what happens!

Later days!

Oh, and I'd also like to thank all of you who have been giving me such helpful advice, especially you Eileen. <3

Seeds, seeds, seeds!

Category: Coming soon! | Posted: Fri Jun 05, 2009 9:03 pm

Well, today we went to Wal-mart and I purchased a watering can, water soluble Miracle-Grow all purpose plant food, and of course, seeds.

Wanna know what I bought?

Of course you do!

for the flowers I only bought two packages because of the assortment I bought yesterday

Giant White MOONFLOWER (probably my absolute favorite flower next to roses)

and Mammoth Russian SUNFLOWER (another favorite)

now for the FRUITS (new!) and VEGGIES

Sugar Baby WATERMELON (YUMMY! :D)

Hales Best CANTALOUPE

California Wonder PEPPER

and last (but certainly not leaste) Sparkler White tip RADISH

Oh! And some lettuce! I'm not sure what kind though? I just know that we have some somewhere...

*ponders*

Hmm...

Uh, anyway! My mom also got me a thank you present for all the hard work I've been doing around the house.

Do you wanna know what it is? Huh? Huh? Do ya? (Sorry, I'm a little hyper today :D)

She got me...

-insert drumroll here-

The Vegetable Gardener's BIBLE by Edward C. Smith!!!

*wipes tear*

I'm so happy!

It has EVERYTHING you could ever want to know about growing vegetables from A-Z and next month my mom is buying me it's companion...

-insert another drumroll here-

The Flower Gardener's Bible!

Haha! I bet I'm a little weird, huh? After all, what teenager puts off a video game she's been wanting for like ever for a gardening book?

Actually, it makes me proud. I think that it's a sign that I'm growing up some. :D

Yay! Progress!

Haha.

Well, I'd like to close with a little fruit humor.

*clears throat*

A-herm!

Why can't melons get married?

(wait for it!)

...

Because they can't elope!

(Until next entry! Later days!)

Getting started

Category: Coming soon! | Posted: Thu Jun 04, 2009 11:57 pm

Today my mom took me to Fresno Ag (Agriculture) so that I could buy some seed packets, and I didn't come up empty handed :D

So, this is what I came home with:

Starting with flower seeds

Canary Bird ZINNIA

Blue FORGET-ME-NOT (in honor of my late grandmother who loved forget-me-nots)

Crackerjack MARIGOLD

Forest Fire CELOSIA (my favorite out of all of them)

Unwin's DAHLIA

And now for the veggies!

Early Prolific Straightneck SQUASH

Garden Sweet Hybrid CUCUMBER

Cinderella PUMPKIN

Cocozelle SQUASH

and now for my personal favorite

American Flag LEEKS! (I love leeks!!!)

Fortunately we didn't plant anything today because the apartment complex next door decided to drain their pool (can you guess where?) into our backyard D:

On a lighter note, we're going to dig up the disease ridden lemon trees that are so bad they don't even look like proper lemon trees anymore.

In their place we plan on planting a naval orange tree because let's face it, who doesn't love oranges?
I used to have a dog who absolutely LOVED oranges ever since she was a puppy.

Well, that's all for now.

Later days!
