This is nothing to CROW about!

Category: A little of this and a little of that. | Posted: Thu May 24, 2012 3:06 pm

For the last two weeks the crows in our area have found my suet feeder I have mounted on our maple tree in the front yard. I was a platform feeder that I had put a few nails in and then I just stuck the large hunks of suet I get at a local meat market on the nails. Well in one day the crows have the suet all gone and my woodpeckers are looking for their snack.
I have tried to put a plastic netting over the suet which the crows just pull off, and throw it on the ground. I thought well I will move it right next to the house in front and that should keep them away. NO good. They come up there as well. So now I am going back to the drawing board and will be trying to design a suet feeder that you have to cling to like the woodpeckers can do but not the crows I hope. Will keep you updated. I will put a pic of the feeder if it works to keep the crows away. At the rate the crows are eating my suet I can go threw 27.00 dollars worht of it in a week. Oh well, let the games begin.

Tooty, I bought a huge blow up snake from the garden dept. at wallyworld and I put it on the compost pile a couple years ago...the crows did not like the snake, they never came back, even though it was the dead of winter.

Good luck with solving your problem. Poor woodpeckers. :( They're lucky to have such a caring neighbour.
