Destroyed Calla LilySomething very heavy crushed one of my Calla Lilys. I'm really not sure what to do about it but I'm hoping the stems will magically straighten. I don't think it was Joey as he's blind and never crosses over the garden borders. This looks like something heavy fell on it and I think maybe a raccoon fell off the roof as that's happened before, although, I didn't hear any fights with the local cats. ![]() So, tomorrow I'll spend some time out in the gardens and stake up the Calla Lily, clean up the limons that have blown off the tree and sweep up the patio. We've had very warm windy weather and I even had the air conditioner on for awhile a few days ago. They say this weather will continue a few more days. I had to have x-rays of my back as I was experiencing pain and thought it was from the hardware in my back. It turns out that the arthritis in my hip is acting up. I can handle that and will begin aquatic therapy next month. I'm still taking it slow working in the yard but can do a lot more now and am really itching to put some new plants in. This false "summer" makes me want to get out and do some work. Last edited: Fri Jan 16, 2009 7:48 am This blog entry has been viewed 568 times

What a curious problem. I hope that staking the calla w32ill make it straight and that it will live.
The Calla Lilys are hard to kill. They keep popping up all over the garden. I just hate seeing one flattened out like that. I had moles for awhile but have a mole chaser now and have had no more problems. I'll just have to watch and see if it happens to anymore of my plants.
Let's hope that whatever flattened your calla doesn't make a repeat visit Eileen and that staking the flattened one helps it to survive.
Sorry to hear about your hip pain. Hope you get better soon.
A garden mystery, how exciting! I hope you figure out what happened to your calla lily, so it won't happen again. Good luck with the aqua-therapy, I hope you will benefit from it.
What a mystery you have.I do love Calla Lilies.
I transplanted a Calla Lily and spent the next 5 years digging up plants from the same spot trying to remove all of it. They seem to be pretty tough (or at least that one was). I've tried twice to get the colored callas established and failed. Go figure.
Sorry about your lily. Take it easy with your hip. Our weather fools us too. We've had 20 deg - 55 deg alternating. I love Joey - he's a handsome fellow.
Joey's now 11 years old and has been blind since he was a baby. He was abandoned when he was 5 by his elderly owner and left in a vetenarian's office for nearly a year before being surrendered to a Boston Terrier rescue group. He was in a series of foster homes where he was islolated in a crate in garages, back rooms, etc and was adopted by another elderly person who's son-in-law abused Joey. When we finally got him he was a sad little boy who had quit eating and was down to 12 pounds. I lavished him with love and food and he's a hefty 28 pounds now. He sleeps in bed with me and is my shadow. He burrows under blankets and loves playing tug o' war. He naps in any sun spot he can find. He's a healthy dog and I hope to have him for a long time.
