Rocks in Your Garden Planters

Category: Container Gardening | Posted: Wed Apr 15, 2009 1:35 pm

Don't fill the bottom of your planters and containers with stones, gravel or rocks unless you think you need the added weight to prevent tipping. Cover the holes in the bottom of your pot or container with mesh, gravel, paper towel or a coffee filter to prevent the soil from washing away when watering. Do you have some great tips to share?[/url]

i thought about using rocks to keep bugs out of the bottom of the pots but i guess they would just craw around them. The coffee filter tip sounds cool..

rocks would also mess up my weight judgment i bet too when guessing how much water was in it.

The mesh would probably work well in keeping out the bugs - that is if they crawled in that way and didn't come with the soil!

yeah it seems its either pill bugs or termites in my pots. Not sure if the pill bugs do damage as they don't burrow too far in it seems..

gonna have to buy some mesh..
