Busy, busy, busy...Surprise its me again! I have been so busy I don't know what way to turn next. If any one has any ideas on how to help me then clue me in on this little problem I have been working on.. I am in TX my Mom is in MI and I have to move her to TN the last of the month. The bad part is she can only take a few things as she is just renting a bedroom in the home of a friend. I will take a plane on the 24th and rent a truck to move her things and some things I want to bring back as well. I am having a hard time getting her to understand she can only take what books fit in the book case, what bedding fits in the ceder chest and what clothes that fit in her suit case. She has to walk away from the rest. The hard part is she has lived in that house since 1971 and has saved EVERYTHING! Last month when I was there my cousin and I tossed out 12 trash bags of plastic containers (cottage cheese) and papers. I really hate being the one that makes her "get er done" but its been 2 years since she said she wanted to move. Any way say a li'l prayer in the morning for me as I have a small surgery done and sent back home to rest the rest of the day. Take care all, till another time.... Sounds like your Mom is a bit of a hoarder. I can understand what that feels like actually as I inherited it a bit from my mother. It's a tough one to crack.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you when you get your surgery Janice.
My grandmother (in Michigan as well) threw NOTHING away. When she died after living in the house 65 years, my mother took it all and it is now in her house..in Michigan. My parents are 91 and have lived in their house for 64 years so far. Guess what I will have to deal with in a few years <G>
I sense a similarity here. I live in the state of Michigan as did my mother all her life until her death lat winter. She hoarded a lot of stuff - unfortunately a lot came to my house because my brother and sister had no room. And after all they were family things. (I think those words came from my brother) Good luck with the move and the surgery. Polly
I look around my house and see things I wouldn't get rid of, but my kids probably will. Isn't it every parent's job to leave a mess for their kids? How else will they earn their inheiritance? Not that they will get much but a messy house. DR says he only wants to live long enough to be an embarassment to his kids. Dooley
Well Janice, as you have been in my house you know I'm the same way.I have 3 houses full.I know my kids will surely hate me for when I die and leave them to deal with. I have my Aunts things ,My mother-in laws things and my moms things ,(Every kind of owl you can think of).Mine and my hubby's life time of things.Soooo I can't say anything about it.If and when my daughter says mom you have to come live in Montana for the rest of your life and take only a few things because you don't have room I will never stop crying .I was married to a dear sweet hoarder also and it would probably kill me to have to do away with all his and my things much less everyone elses.Good luck ,your going to need it.
