Someone released the SUN!!

Category: Sowing Seeds | Posted: Fri Apr 01, 2011 5:43 pm

It's lunchtime and I just walked out of my office.. looked out the back door and nearly squealed like a girl. The sunshine was coming in through the windows! I may end up eating lunch in my jeep..the temp is still cool but I want to enjoy the sun as there's a nasty nasty rumor that we'll have rain again tomorrow.
I was gifted with a birdfeeder this morning, she'd heard me talking with a couple of drug reps about gardening and thought I'd like it (I DO!)
My Love will be home Sunday beginning his vacation week and I'm SO ready for some talk and snuggle time. My Love is a bear of a man & usually very quiet unless he has something to say, EXCEPT with me. We discuss everything under the sun and he has this dorky 14 year old humor. He can make me laugh and smile with just a look and roll of his eyes. (sorry--I'll stop gushing)
Everyone enjoy your weekend, if I don't get on much this coming week you'll know why. :-)

Overcast again.. or is still?

We're having a week of cold overcast and rain. While I do love a good soaking rain and the quick evening summer thunderstorm, this has weather is enough to drive me batty!

70's one week freezing the next. I've just left the covers for the plants in a box on the porch...why go inside for them when I need them so often?! I'm sure I saw my 4 legged kids mumbling about me playing peek-a-boo with the tomatoes and peppers, the covers are on and off that quickly. On the upside, I don't have to water the plants and when summer gets here the extra spring rain will have helped the ford's water level.

All told, I jumped the gun this year planting outside. I should have waited another 3 weeks..... which means I can use the rest of the year to get some sort of greenhouse set up OR build some shelves in my youngest's old bedroom on the ESE facing window. Hmmmmmm time to call my love and get some input. (wink)

It's Sunday afternoon and I am taking an hour to sit and read through the Stew and upload some pics.
I was home sick Friday and of course Saturday was catch up while you can day. TN is currently having what someone called a "Redbud" winter...several days of near freezing at night and mid 40's at the highest during the day. I have been clucking over all the plants and seedlings. The herbs, lettuce and kale seem to like it, not so sure about the raised bed (green onions, sweet onions and garlic). I covered the tomatoes and peppers and of course I brought the seedlings and new potted transplants in as well.

Thunderstorms coming

Category: Sowing Seeds | Posted: Wed Mar 23, 2011 12:09 pm

Well it's definately spring here in Winchester. Growing up in Houston I enjoy thunderstorms, there they are usually short but splendid. In Tennessee they are less frequent, usually just in the spring. They are more likely to cause harm here since the ground isn't all flat like Houston (other than the multiple bayous). But I woke up to my wind chimes singing like crazy and seeing the overcast even in the dusky dawn. Brought my seedlings inside and have to smile about the fact I was actually talking to them. Comforting them that I'd slip them inside so the wind & rain wouldn't hurt them.

prayerful start

Well it's the first day of spring. And I must confess I jumped the gun and planted a few things last weekend, mostly herbs. This weekend we've potted more herbs, roma and pink brandywine tomatoes, sweet and green onions & garlic. I've got cilantro and morning glory seedlings peeking out of their egg cartons. I just started sweet peppers and bell peppers in their egg cartons. I have a couple of blueberry plants (dwarf tophat) sitting out waiting to be planted midweek in some big pots.

Last year we planted a few things in a raised bed and I grinned and awed by God each time I saw how much they grew when I watered them before or after work. This year a lot of our plants are in pots and I plan on enjoying both the food as well as the flowers I'm planting. I enjoy that working with the plants brings me closer to my God.
