Frogs are saying its SPRING
Category: Life in Western PA | Posted: Thu Mar 22, 2007 5:52 pm They say its spring, was out working in my yard on the new raised beds and guess what I heard....Frogs Chirping....That is a sure sign of spring here and to me a great sound. As i am sitting here typing I have my back door open, just to hear them. So relaxing and peaceful to me. I know some people find the sound annoying and just noise, but to me its nature and anything with nature and what GOD provides us is a blessing and wonder to enjoy.... I got some more seeds started this morning and some startings of flowers transplanted to bigger pots. I just love this time of year. This blog entry has been viewed 766 times
Winter type day AGAIN!!!
Category: Life in Western PA | Posted: Sat Mar 17, 2007 6:48 pm Well we got about 4 more inches of snow between yesterday and this morning. I really hope that is the last of it this year...LOL I was so happy this morning.....my dry flowers I started inside are sprouting, this is the first year in a long time I have started my own flowers and veggies and it makes me feel good to see them growing...atleast looking at all the flats and pots I have seeded, makes me think SPRING ...even if it doesn't look that way outside. I found a small field of daffodils growing on a empty lot the other day, and asked the owner of the property if I could dig them up...and he said YES...will have lots of them next spring, thinking I will put a row the whole way across the edge of my yard next to the woods with them. The lot used to have a old cabin on it and is back on a dirt road, when I said I wanted to dig them, the owner said "Go ahead, someone might as well enjoy them." And believe me I will.... Rain Today
Category: Life in Western PA | Posted: Wed Mar 14, 2007 1:54 pm Its raining here today, not to hard but enough to keep me inside working. I sure did need the short day of yard work yesterday, woke up full of energy this morning. Went for a walk around the yard and watched the tadpoles swim around while enjoying my coffee. I seen where my daffodils and day lillies and spouting out near the woods. They always do take more time to come up then the ones out front. Started some marigolds and tomato seeds this morning, I know it is a bit early, but hoping to get a head start on them, and maybe sell a few plants at my store this year. Speaking of the store. Will try to open the first of April. Seems that when most of the yard sales and fleamarkets in my area begin, and since I carry those sorts of items, its best for me to wait to open up after being closed all winter. Another day of Yard Work
Category: Life in Western PA | Posted: Mon Mar 12, 2007 2:39 pm Worked outside in the yard all day yesterday. Was too tired to get online last night to add to my blog, so figured I would this morning while the frost was melting off. I got my first raised vegetable bed started and have the other two spots cleared off for them. Also did some cleaning around my backyard pond, going to have to do some digging when it gets warmer out. The one side collasped into the pond with all the freezing and thawing we have had this winter. Will be another full day today, work on the raised beds and try to get the area around my mailbox cleaned up again. The snow plow truck really did a job to it, got some stones to put back in place and proably have to add some extra topsoil that got displaced. Glad I won't be seeing those trucks for awhile...LOL Just thought of something else I want to do today...Looked outside and seen I need to fix up the pallets around my compost bin...Busy Busy...but I am so glad its warming up outside.... Dafodils Sprouting
Category: Life in Western PA | Posted: Sun Mar 11, 2007 1:58 am The snow finally melted off today. My daffodils are sprouted....I was like a little kid when I seen them, now I know Spring in on the way. Bought some more seeds today, Cauliflower and brocoli some some Marigods seeds. Getting really anxious to get them started, but will wait a few more weeks. I also finally decided where to make my new raised vegetable garden. Will add photos when I get it started, making the frame for it out of some used bricks from a old water cistern, that my brother and boyfriend redid. (I knew they would be useful for something...LOL) and they thought I was crazy when I asked them to save them for me...HAHA Also did some cleaning around my little backyard pond and seen some tadpoles swimming around, didn't notice the fish yet, but still kinda cloudy. I hope they survived the winter, it was a first for them.... This blog entry has been viewed 714 times
