Hi - The pond story
Category: outdoor gardening - pond | Posted: Mon Dec 03, 2007 3:13 pm As you can see in the picture bellow I have a small paved garden. So I decided to do flowerpots and planter for my flowers and trees and herbs. ![]() Since I wanted also a pond, I removed some of the flowerpots and built a pond instead. When designing the ponds I had to take into consideration the following: 1) Distance it from fowling leaves. So I decided to put it in the far end of the pave ![]() 2) The size of the pond based on the constraint of the area. 3) The plus and minus of using a kit vs. building it with PVC sheets. 4) What type of fish can I put in (Koi fish require large space) 5) What type of plants. How much room they need. How to keep them thinned out, so there will be no room for snakes to hide in. 6) How to keep the water clean. 7) what type of filtration? Luckily there are few companies here in Israel that gives you step by step guideline(In hebrew) for all the above. If you have specific question I'll translate the instructions. I decided on 1000 liter(about 250 gallons) pond. The recommendation were not to use the kits because it's much stronger and sustainable to build it. I added just few water plants and 4 fishes. I also added a Gambusia to help with the cleaning. ![]() Last edited: Mon Dec 03, 2007 8:10 pm This blog entry has been viewed 558 times
useful gardening hobby
Category: outdoor gardening - pond | Posted: Sat Dec 01, 2007 7:03 pm Hello gardening fans! My name is Gila and I live in Israel. One of my main hobbies is gardening. I love flowers, trees, vegetable and herbs in my garden. I'm a holistic naturopath and In the last 3 years, after finishing my studies, I converted my garden to an organic garden. So I'm trying to grow eatable and useful plants. I have in my garden Herbs like Mint, lemon grass, oregano, parsley, basil, and much more. On the flowers side I grow pansy, nasturtium, geranium (lemon type) - all eatable leaf and flowers. To complete the natural and holistic environment, I added a Pond with waterfalls. The fish in the ponds and the sound of the water are very relaxing and adding calmness and peaceful to my garden. In my previous house I had a quarter of an acre backyard, so I had more room for a bigger fish pond. Since I liked it very nuch, I found a way to do it in a smaller yard. In my next post I'll tel you how? ![]() Last edited: Mon Dec 03, 2007 9:40 am This blog entry has been viewed 650 times
