Cheeky, our acrobatic squirrel

Category: Sharing Garden photos | Posted: Tue Dec 08, 2009 2:24 pm

Based on this photo I have determined that our acrobatic squirrel is female. So I have named her Cheeky.

I thought maybe if I wired my reindeer flag to the pole it would work like a scarecrow and keep her off.

W R O N G !

It just gave her a better grip and just the right height!

She is fun to watch and the chipmunks and ground feeders are happy when she spills the seed. I let her eat for a few minutes and then chase her off.

Snow birds

Category: Visitors in the garden | Posted: Mon Dec 07, 2009 9:58 pm

The snow only last eight hours but I am thankful to have my photos. I am glad I got out early before the snow melted. The snow provided a great backdrop for our feathered friends.

My knock out roses are still blooming despite the snow and freezing temperatures.

Smilebox...fun in the snow

Category: Holidays | Posted: Sat Dec 05, 2009 9:30 pm

We have lived in the Knoxville, TN area for 9 years and I think we have used our snow shovel twice. So when it snows, even an inch, we enjoy it. Today we got our inch, just enough to make it pretty. By late afternoon, it all melted. I'm not sure our golden retriever Molly enjoyed it but if you click on the link below, you can see for yourself.

Squirrels just wanna have fun!

Category: Visitors in the garden | Posted: Fri Dec 04, 2009 10:34 pm

I was having lunch, watching the birds at the feeder when I noticed one of our pesky gray squirrels eyeing the feeder. I decided to watch him for a few minutes before I chased him off.

I think I can, I think I can... ( photo / image / picture from gfreiherr's Garden )
That was my break from decorating the Christmas tree, back to work.

Now comes the tricky part... ( photo / image / picture from gfreiherr's Garden )

Tropical landscapes

Category: Sharing Garden photos | Posted: Tue Dec 01, 2009 10:07 pm

We just returned from visiting our daughter in Tampa, FL. The townhome complex she lives in is beautifully maintained by a landscape service. I enjoyed seeing all the tropical plants and palm trees on our morning walks knowing I would soon be returning to the barren landscape of my TN garden.

Thanksgiving Visitors

Category: Sharing Garden photos | Posted: Mon Nov 23, 2009 12:24 pm

I had not planned to post a blog today because we are leaving for Altanta at noon. Our golden retriever Molly started barking like crazy and when I looked our the window this is what I saw.

"For flowers that bloom about our feet;
For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet;
For song of bird, and hum of bee;
For all things fair we hear or see,

Ready for Winter

Category: The Joys of gardening | Posted: Mon Nov 16, 2009 9:47 pm

We have been fortunate to have two weeks of sunny days and afternoon temperatures around 70. This weekend I finished up my pre-winter chores. The annuals have been pulled, the perennials have been cut back, birdbaths & birdfeeders got a good cleaning, and the leaves have been raked. There is always more to do but the bulk of it is done. I can't believe that Thanksgiving is next week!
Thirty five days until winter officially begins.

My knock out roses are still blooming, here are a few photos I took this weekend.

Colorful blooms in my autumn garden

Category: Sharing Garden photos | Posted: Fri Nov 13, 2009 10:31 pm

According to the forecast our Indian summer temperatures will be around for another week, sunny skies and 70 degrees (farenheit). The falling leaves keep covering up the remaining blooms. I am including some photos of blooms uncovered after a day raking leaves. On beautiful days like today I don't even mind raking leaves.
