Seed Swap

Category: Misc. | Posted: Sun Feb 28, 2010 9:05 pm

Yesterday, I attended the local seed swap and got a lot of seeds (I can't even remember all the varieties!)

Label on probable rosemary ( photo / image / picture from aythya-camellia's Garden )

A row of onions ( photo / image / picture from aythya-camellia's Garden )

Sedum var. something or other (this one was only for display) ( photo / image / picture from aythya-camellia's Garden )

I forgot what this was, but it was pretty ( photo / image / picture from aythya-camellia's Garden )

A Common Redpoll came to the feeder. No photo, unfortunately, but it was a cute, fluffy little thing.

Well, the snow is relatively deep. The grass isn't obscured yet, though.

Christmas Bird Count

Category: Misc. | Posted: Sun Jan 03, 2010 5:29 pm

I went on the Christmas Bird Count yesterday; plenty of common species, but some rare ones too. A female Wood Duck and 4 or 5 species of unusual gull: Lesser Black-backed, Great Black-backed, Thayer's, Glaucous, and California? I don't think any of us were sure about the California--it doesn't help that it's apparently never been seen in the area before.

Summer Memories

Something vaguely like a virtual photo album...not very easy to explain. It makes a fun winter project. Here's one of my numerous ones if you feel like taking a look:

Crabapple Fruit Drop

Category: Misc. | Posted: Wed Dec 02, 2009 1:34 am

My crabapple (Malus species) is dropping its fruit early this year. I don't mind all that much, but I am not so sure about my neighbors.
